We booked one night in a room with a private bath. The experience was fantastic. We were welcomed by friendly staff at the reception, who explained everything in detail. You can pick up a yukata that you can wear at all times in the ryokan. The room was spacious, with two futon beds and a 3-tatami space for lounging after a bath. The terrace with the bath was closed from others' view by a wooden fence but you could still see the greenery nad trees. The dinner was superb. We ordered an extra sashimi set and it was almost too much to eat in one sitting. The signature grilled sea bream was delicious beyond telling. You can walk to the ryokan from Hakone-Yumoto station - although the hill may be a bit steep for some and it may be very difficult with a large luggage.

My husband and I spent months looking forward to a hot spring experience in Hakone, and this one really delivered! I have tattoos so I knew I couldn't go to a public bath -- we got a room here with an open-air bath and it was absolutely incredible. The bath itself is so warm and comfortable. We loved the futons, the tatami floors, the kotatsu, and the beautiful stained glass windows in the room. Dinner was a feast for the eyes and the stomach! I told the hotel ahead of time that I don't eat red meat and they adjusted the meal accordingly, which was very kind. Breakfast was just as good, with some Western options included in the buffet. We also loved the free drinks in the lobby!

Location: in the forest, at small distance frome the village but near the train station. Neighborhood is very calm. The Access to the hôtel IS an aventure, (especially with big luggage it can be very physical) , but the walk IS very nice. The hotel is clean, well decorated, the staff IS helpful, kind and vey reactive. Traditional style room, it has all what it takes for a good stay, the private bath IS very nice. It Can be tight with large multiple luggage. The star of the stay IS dinner: Classy, very tasty, authentic. The breakfast (japanese style) IS very good.

The rooms are quite traditional and quaint and it is in a very quiet area. It is a little removed from the main area, but it is a 15 minute walk away from town or you can get the train up, and then it's a 5 minute walk We didn't try the public onsen, but had a private one in our room and it was lovely. We ended up having dinner there and it was an incredible meal for great value in our opinion

The kaiseki dinner is great. A variety of food, good tasting and generous amount. In room onsen is really a bonus (though a bit small, enough for 1 pax at a time). The public onsen (close and open) is nice! Have unlimited free drinks at the reception area, which is really a nice gesture.
